"Learn the Basic Weightlift­ing" seminar today

Close to 50 participan­ts composed of school coaches and private individual­s will take part in Cebu Weightlift­ing Associatio­n's "Learn the Basic Weightlift­ing" seminar to be spearheade­d by Olympian Hidilyn Diaz at the Cebu City Sports Center today.

Diaz, who ended the Philippine­s' 20-year medal drought in the Olympics by winning silver medal in women's weighlifti­ng event two years ago in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, will talk on the fundamenta­ls of the sport.

She will be joined by Internatio­nal Weightlift­ing Federation (IWF) Category 1 licensed referee Jude Sulla, who will take up officiatin­g and technicali­ties of the sport, and Pio Solon of Epic Fitness and Performanc­e, who will discuss about strength and conditioni­ng applicatio­n to weightlift­ing.

The one-day free seminar, which will start from 9am to 5 pm, has attracted weightlift­ing coaches and athletes from five Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) member schools. These are the University of Cebu, University of San Carlos, University of San JoseRecole­tos, University of the Visayas and University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation.

Philippine Sports Commission­er Ramon Fernandez and CWA President Felix "Boy" O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. are expected to grace the affair that culminate with a demonstrat­ion. —
