Mutya search starts in Cebu

search kicks off in Cebu Tomorrow

- By KARLA RULE

Cebuana beauty queen aspirants will get the chance to get one step closer to their dreams as the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization will be in the Queen City of the South tomorrow to search for deserving ladies who wish to vie for the crowns up for grabs in the competition.

Now on its 50th edition, the beauty pageant has widened its already broad reach and has decided to go on ground as they scour the country’s next batch of possible queens.

Ilene Astrid De Vera – a University of the Philippines Cebu Mass Communication alumna who was crowned Mutya ng PilipinasAsia Pacific International 2017 and finished second runner-up at Miss Asia Pacific International 2017 – will be at the Cebu leg of the screening as the regional search kicks off on June 2, Saturday at the 38 Park Avenue Showroom, IT Park from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Hopefuls from Southern Mindanao can look forward to a screening at Aposento Davao in Matina, IT Park Davao City on June 3.

Leading up to its Golden Year, Mutya ng Pilipinas President Hemilyn EscuderoTamayo promises the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 staging as the grandest yet. They are eyeing 50 candidates to compete for the four titles at stake: Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Top Model

of the World, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Filipino Communities, and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International.

Tamayo says she has no problem with accepting crossover beauty queens in their roster, saying that candidates can move from one competition onto another as they wish.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas Organization promotes “Beauty Tourism” within Asia and West Pacific. One of the national pageant’s distinct component is the direct participation of Overseas Filipino Communities who continue to hold local pageants in order to bring delegates for the Mutya ng Pilipinas competition. Among these communities are Northern and Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Midwest, the East Coast, Hawaii, Canada, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia.

The pageant’s thrust is also one of a kind. It is safe to say that the competition is looking for a well-rounded Filipina, given that Mutya ng Pilipinas aims to highlight everything that

is beautiful in the Pinay and the Philippines, from promoting tourism, fostering social responsibility, and on the aesthetic side of things like fashion and beauty pageantry.

And so, Mutya ng Pilipinas is in search for a Filipina with a social conscience as the organization continues to do their part in molding and giving an example of what makes a meaningful and responsive Filipina well into its 50th year.

If you think you have what it takes to be part of the Mutya ng Pilipinas court (a natural born female with Filipino ancestry, at least 18 but no more than 24 years old, standing at least fight foot five and have finished high school) who above all possesses undeniable beauty of face and figure, an outstanding personality, and wit among other qualifications, then maybe it’s your time to give the competition a shot and become the next woman to join the growing ranks of highly regarded and beloved Cebuana beauty queens.

Apart from de Vera, past Cebuana Mutya ng Pilipinas title-holders include the late Rizzini Alexis Camlian Gomez who was hailed Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2012 and had proceeded to win the Miss Tourism International 20122013 crown in Kuala Lumpur; Angeli Dione Gomez who was hailed as Miss International Tourism for the year 20132014 in Putrajaya, Malaysia; and Eva Psychee Patalinjug, crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International in 2014 and is now the reigning Binibining Pilipinas Grand International.

Come September 16, De Vera, along with her fellow 2017 queens, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International Jannie Loudette Alipo-on, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Top Model of the World Hannah Khayle Iglesia, and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Filipino Communities Savannah Mari Gankiewicz will relinquish their crowns to give way to the brand new generation of Filipina queens.
