PRO-7 welcomes proposed reshuffling

An impending major police revamp in Central Visayas sit well with the top officials of the Police Regional Office-7.

Police Superintendent Reyman Tolentin, PRO7 spokesperson, said restructuring some key police positions is a normal procedure that police officers experience often.

“The revamp is a natural occurrence in the service so there is an oversight committee and this oversight committee will determine the key positions,” he said.

He was referring to the Philippine National Police's oversight committee, which is tasked to deliberate on the performances of city, provincial, and regional level commanders.

The possible revamp was recently announced by PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde.

According to a GMA News Online report, Albayalde said the PNP top brass decided to do a revamp of the police commanders' assignments after a series of meetings with the oversight committee.

The PNP chief also clarified that the reshuffle was not solely based on their performance as there would be a number of police officers who will retire from the service, prompting the need for the movement within the ranks. Aside from the performance, Tolentin said the revamp will consider various aspects, including administrative.

"The revamp will call for considerations like the performance of the key officers in the organization. Second is the administrative consideration. These include the years in the position like if you have been assigned for more than two years and another is the date of retirement,” he said.

He said the revamp will include officials who are “overstaying.”

"Of course this will not exclude us, the region, especially if those factors I have mentioned will be tackled. So kung yung performance and administrative matters kung kailangan nilang desisyonan, pwede tayong maapektahan." said Tolentin.

Moreover, Tolentin said qualified personnel can apply for the vacant positions.

"So naturally there will be positions that will be vacant so those qualified personnel will have to apply or will have to be considered and the decision will be coming from the oversight committee,” he said.

The oversight committee is composed of police officials from Camp Crame.
