Shabu worth P1.7M seized
More than P1.7 million worth of suspected shabu was seized by authorities led by the Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) from an alleged member of a big-time Bohol drug syndicate yesterday dawn in Barangay Poblacion, Panglao, Bohol.
Superintendent Glenn Mayam, DEG chief, said the suspected shabu weighing 150 grams was confiscated from the suspect Rey Jacquese Cesar Araña, considered a high-value target.
Mayam said Araña belongs to a drug syndicate believed to be the main distributor of illegal drugs in Bohol.
Araña was arrested after a buy-bust operation during which he handed over three large packs of suspected shabu to the operatives. Several of his accomplices, who served as lookouts during the transaction, were able to escape.
The Dangerous Drugs Board valued the drugs at worth P1,770,000.
Araña was under police surveillance for at least three months before the buy-bust operation could be carried out, according to Mayam.
“Dili man ni siya mobaligya ug dili niya kaila. Dako ang impact nga ato siyang nadakop kay sa iya pa lang 150 grams nga kaya i-distribute dako na kaayo na og perwisyo sa tawo,” said Mayam.
Araña is now detained at the Panglao Police Station pending the filing of charges against him for violation of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
