Out-oftowners Heinz Carbonilla and Gerald Gemida punched the first two final tickets in the boys 12 category of the 23rd JRG Gullas Cup tennis tournament yesterday at the CitiGreen Tennis
Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu
City.
The top seeded Carbonilla of Maranding, Lanao del Norte ruthlessly kicked out Cebu's Chad Connor Cuizon anchored on a 10-0 whitewash.
Carbonilla thus sets up a gold medal match against Gerald Gemida of Ormoc City, who dismissed another Cebuano bet in Geo John Manito, 10-7, in the other boys 12 semis.
Carbonilla hopes for a double victory as he also advanced to the boys 14 semis after overpowering Cymmer James Casem, 10-3.
Carbonilla will face Dumaguete's Randy Tatoy in the penultimate round. Tatoy progressed after defeating Fern Po, 10-3.
On the other hand, Bogo City's Raymund Goco made it to the boys 14 semis where he will take on the topranked Nash Agustines of Oroquieta City.
Goco bested Hans Cabellon, 10-7, in the quarterfinals, while Agustines prevailed over Eric Longakit, 10-8.
Aside from Goco, the other Cebuanos who barged into the Final Four at CitiGreen were Vinz Alforque and Francis Lambayan.
Alforque ousted Mico Gambal, 10-7 in the boys 16, while Lambayan booted out Guillan Bandoquillo, 10-6 in the boys 18.
Over at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, LapuLapu City's Tifanny Nocos rolled into the girls 16 semis after silencing Jullianna Maravillas, 10-1. She will go up next against Rica Gudelosao, who stunned top contender Elaine Bahonsua, 10-1.
In the other girls 16 semis results, Pherl Coderos edged Lyra Repollo, 10-2, while Bliss Bayking subdued Nicole Dela Rita, 10-6, to set up a final duel.
In the girls 18, Cebuanas Elizabeth Abarquez and Zethley Mae Alferez stepped closer towards a title showdown after outlasting Rica Gudelosao, 10-1 and Ellaine Bahonsua, 10-3, respectively.—
