Team Norbert, Sambag lead champs in Poblacion Oriental caging

Team Norbert and Sambag banner the list of champions in the Poblacion Oriental Summer Basketball League 2018, which finally came to an end last Sunday at the Poblacion Oriental covered court in Consolacion.

Bret Michael Alivio dropped 25 points, Danny Naya added 22, while Dominic Semblante scored 18 as Team Norbert spanked Team Randy, 104-95, to clinch the title in the inter-sitio category.

Team Norbert was in full control since taking an early 25-20 lead.

Team Randy, led by Luigi Sembante and Gio Semblante with 35 combined points, stayed within striking range but Team Norbert banked on a solid endgame play to seal the deal.

Sambag, on the other hand, outfoxed the Panthers, 98-89, to take home the champion's trophy in the junior division.

Chuckie Sanchez exploded for 29 points and Niño Casinillo banged in 24 markers at Sambag kept the Panthers at bay since cruising to a 48-39 halftime lead.

O.G. and Lyn Basketball stole part of the spotlight after lording it over their respective categories.

O.G. downed Riverside, 81-73, to reign supreme in the mini category, while Lyn Basketball outlasted Centro, 94-87, to snare the midget division crown.

John Sent Naya paced O.G. with 21 points followed by Daniel Semblante with 16 and Rikoy Yap with 12 points, while John Paul Boyles topscored for Lyn Basketball with 24 points backed up by Jetro Solermo and Jobert Maglasang who connived for 39 points.

Meanwhile, the Most Valuable Player awards went Jansen Naya (mini), Dodong Boyles (midget), Nino Icot (junior), and Remejias Semblante, Jr. (inter-sitio).

Staged to spice up the fiesta celebration of Poblacion Oriental in honor of their beloved patron Sr. San Roque, the annual tournament was made possible through the all-out support of Barangay Captain Hon. Melquiades "Leking" Caylan and sports chairman Eva Malagar.

The games were supervised by sports commissioner Joven "Baste" Alivio assisted by Margarette Rosal and Narciso Monterolla.—
