All set for Kawasan 80km ultra marathon

- Gloreitta T. Lariosa

Fifty long distance runners will be put into test in the second edition of the Kawasan Falls 80kilometer Ultra Marathon this June 30 starting at the San Fernando Municipal Hall and ending at the heart of Kawasan Falls in Badian.

What had been a fun run last year turned into an official race this year due to people's demand.

The ultra race is a new and exciting event that features the magical landscape and crystal clear waters of one of the country's top tourist destinations, the Kawasan Falls, located in Barangay Matutinao, Badian.

"We had the first edition of this race last year which was just a fun race and also serves as a training for us long distance runners but many requested to make it an official race that's why we're the doing the second edition," race organizer Edwin Colina said. "Aside from the beauty of the trails going to the finish line, this race is an advantage to new long distance runners because they have longer cut-off time."

From San Fernando, the runners will traverse the towns of Carcar, Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara and Moalboal passing some areas of Badian until they reach the entry point of Barangay Matutinao to Kawasan Falls.

Gun start is at 2 p.m on June 30 (Saturday) and is expected to end on Sunday morning.

The finishers will receive a speciallydesigned medal, souvenir T-shirt, and post race meal. Only the finishers beyond the cut-off time of 18 hours will get a shirt.

Interested parties still have until June 15 to register.
