Drug surrenderer indicted, another stabbed to death
A 50-year-old drug surrenderer is facing charges before the court for allegedly selling and possessing illegal drugs.
Ramero Beran alias Rame, a resident of Lupa, Purok 3 Lower, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, was arrested last May 24 at 6:30 p.m. in an entrapment operation in his residence.
Police Officer 2 Arnel Cabardo of the Fuente Police Station said that, prior to the arrest of the accused, they received a report that he was engaged in selling shabu and would sell shabu to the passersby of their place, especially to the college students.
Acting on the report, a buy-bust operation was conducted.
Upon arrival at the place, Cabardo, together with their informant, approached the suspect and told him that he intend to buy shabu.
Later, the accused handed one small heat-sealed sachet of suspected shabu to the police officer.
Cabardo said that after paying the alleged sachet of shabu weighing 0.1077 gram, he made a pre-arranged signal indicating that the transaction was completed.
His colleagues rushed towards them and he placed accused under arrest.
Aside from the sale, the police were able to recover 1.8557 grams of shabu from the possession of the accused.
In an inquest proceeding, the accused chose not to file a counter-affidavit to answer the accusations filed against him.
Prosecutor II Ma. Johanna Desamparado-Calustre elevated the complaints before the court which was approved by their city prosecutor.
Calustre recommended no bail for the illegal selling of shabu case. She recommended P200,000 bail for the shabu possession complaint.
Meanwhile, a former drug surrenderer was stabbed to death by unidentified person while on his way home from a disco in Barangay Calaboon, Dumanjug, Cebu last Saturday dawn.
Police Senior Inspector Gilfred Baroman, Dumanjug Police chief, identified the victim as Nico Rolda, 28, a resident of Barangay Poblacion.
Baroman said that Rolda was totally drunk when he left the disco.
