15 modern jeepneys to start in Pasay City on Monday

-

At least 15 modern public utility jeepney (PUJ) units will start plying select routes around Pasay City this week, after securing the necessary requirements from the government.

In an emailed statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said 15 out of the total 35 modern PUJ units approved will be launched on Monday, June 18.

The units will ply the routes of Star City/ Cultural Center of the Philippines to the Philippine International Convention Center; and Government Service Insurance System/Senate to the Mall of Asia to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and back.

The routes will be operated by the Senate Employees Service Cooperative (SETSCO), as approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

SETSCO is said to be composed of 22 operators headed by Chairperson Remedios Venturina. It is also one of the three pre-selected cooperatives in the initial implementation of the government's PUV modernization program (PUVMP).

"Kaya naman po talaga itong gawin. Nakasuporta po tayo sa mga kooperatiba basta't kumpleto ang mga dokumento, may maayos na ruta at kaisa natin sa pagsusulong ng PUVMP," LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra said.

"Sila rin naman po ang makikinabang dito sa bandang huli," he explained.

The PUV modernization program was launched last year by the DOTr.
