The Cebu City government may recall cityissued police cars, cut off cash allowances and gasoline subsidy if found out that police cars are illegally parked on the road.

“No, if they continue like that I’ll cut off their allowances and cut off their gasoline and I’ll pull out their cars,” Mayor Tomas Osmeña warned the police during his press conference yesterday.

Once he receives information about illegal parking done by police officers, the mayor said he will forward it to the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) for clamping of the vehicles.

Osmeña has been firm that no one is exempted from the crackdown against illegally parked vehicles since it obstructs traffic flow.

Earlier this month, CCTO personnel clamped two emergency vehicles outside a private hospital.

Osmeña said emergency vehicles and police cars that are not used for emergency purposes should follow the law.

He said one of his vehicles parked outside his house was also clamped last year but he did not complain.

“It applies to the mayor’s house, na clamp akong auto okay ra. Na-clamp ang (vehicles) sa tulo ka konsehal, okay ra,” he said.

With this, Osmeña warned all police stations in Cebu City not to park their vehicles along the road as it obstructs traffic flow.

“So right now, we’re concentrating in clamping and counter-flowing. Once that’s under control, then we will include the police and we will clamp them. We will kick them wherever,” he said.

After cracking down illegally parked vehicles and erring motorists, Osmeña said he will focus on cracking down establishments in the city that have karaoke.

He said he has been receiving complaints from his texters about the noise of the karaoke at night.

He said he will implement measures step by step as he cannot do everything all at once.
