Mall tenants take part in earthquake drill

Tenants of SM Supermalls nationwide took part in the simultaneo­us earthquake drill held on June 21.

At exactly 2 p.m., alarm systems in SM malls were switched on to signal the start of the drill. Mall employees who are members of the Emergency Response Group, as well as the malls’ security group guide employees, tenants, agency personnel, and shoppers to the assembly area located outside of the SM malls where medical personnel are also on standby.

SM malls in Cebu had realistic scenarios simulating a real earthquake. Each mall also placed contingenc­y equipment to help in search and rescue operations.

SM malls in Cebu went on full informatio­n campaign to raise awareness about the drill. An Emergency Response Group was activated to ensure smooth implementa­tion.

The earthquake preparedne­ss and evacuation drill is one of the annual activities conducted by SM malls to remind them of their responsibi­lities especially the members of the Emergency Response Group, at the same time equip mall employees with skills that they can use during fire and earthquake incidents.
