Magpale, Meca good for Davide

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon Lorraine Mitzi A. Ambrad

For the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu Chapter, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale or former Danao City Councilor Ivy Durano-Meca are Governor Hilario Davide's best choices for vice governor should he seek re-election next year.

"Para nako mas maayo nga ang running mate ni Governor Davide kay si Vice Governor Agnes Magpale," saidAljun Diamante, the current mayor of Tuburan town.

"Abtik pa man kaayo siya. Sobra na na siya 70 pero mura ra gihapon og sobra 50," Diamante said.

If Magpale will not run again, however, Diamante said Davide can pick Danao City Councilor Ivy Durano-Meca.

"Si Ivy kay kugihan bisan pa sa kadtong time nga konsehal pa siya. She has a good performance. Bilib ko anang bata-a," Diamante said.

Durano-Meca is currently the chief of Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO).

Diamante believes that a female running mate would be an advantage to Davide.

"If babaye, matan-aw pud ang kahimtang sa kababayen-an like BHWs, women's groups and other women's concerns," he said.

Meca, while grateful of Diamante's endorsement, said she has no plans of running for vice governor - at least, for now.

"Una sa tanan dako nakong pasalamat to Mayor Diamante for seeing my worth as a public servant. Wala ko mag-expect nga naa diay naka-appreciate sa akong panerbisyo," she said.

"Hand on my heart… that being a public servant for over 17 years is the most rewarding way I can contribute to society. However, the thought of running for a post this 2019 election… if dili na gyud mo lansar si Tiya Agnes, I think kinahanglan pa na sabutan ni gov ug sa partido BAKUD kung kinsa angayan mo sunod ni Tiya Agnes isip iyang runningmate," Meca said.

Meanwhile, Diamante downplayed talks that he has his eyes on the Capitol.

"Dili ko modagan pagka vice governor. Dili nako pwedeng biyaan ang Tuburan. Mao bitaw nga either modagan ko og pagka-kongresista o bise mayor," Diamante said.
