Garbage inside barangay hall welcomes new Day-as execs
Piles of garbage and filthy two-story barangay hall welcomed the new set of Dayas, Cebu City officials yesterday.
Their predecessors did not also show up during the supposed turnover ceremony of barangay properties, financial records, and documents, among others, said newly-elected Barangay Captain Freddie Esmas.
Computers, tables and chairs, filing cabinet, television set, air-conditioning unit, and kitchen utensils are also gone.
"Dili lang ko mo-accuse nga gipangukuha basta wala'y nabilin diri sa barangay hall. Barangay properties and documents wala nahatag namo," Esmas said.
"So practically zero gyud. They (former officials) are leaving us in limbo. Basura nuon ilang gibilin," he added.
The FREEMAN tried to contact former village chief Jerome Puerto, but to no avail.
Esmas appealed to the previous administration headed by Puerto to immediately turn over the barangay properties and documents to them.
"Wala mi mamasangil nila nga ilang gidala ang mga butang, ang amoa lang hain na? I-turn over na namo kay kami may mopuli. Magtinabangay unta kay dawaton unta nila ilang kapildihon kay ing-ana man gyud ang eleksyon," he said.
If the previous administration failed to heed his request, Esmas said he would be forced to file cases against the previous officials.
The new village chief has already reported the incident to the Department of the Interior and Local Government but the latter is yet to make actions.
He also asked help from Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and North District Representative Raul del Mar.
"I'm positive they will help us out," he said.
In the meantime, Esmas said they will use the barangay gymnasium as their temporary office until the situation is fixed.—
