However, they refused to reveal the name as they still have to consult their allies first before making a public announcement.

Magpale just said the person they have chosen is "someone from the North."

Magpale is the first choice of the governor but she is firm on her decision to retire from politics due to old age.

She explained that she wants to spend her remaining years with her family.

She is affiliated with the Bakud political party, which has a coalition with the Liberal Party, the party of Gov. Hilario Davide III.

Two names have surfaced as Davide's possible runningmates. They are Tuburan Mayor Aljun Diamante and Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office Chief Carmen Ivy Remedios Durano-Meca.

Magpale said that both are good public servants and have potentials to become vice governor.

"I don't think modagan si Mayor Aljun because I know he has other plans," she said.

In a separate interview, Diamante said his first option is to run for congressman for the Third District of Cebu.

Meca, on the other hand, said she no plans to run for vice governor.

Davide had said he will still support Diamante if the mayor will run for Congress even if they are not partymates anymore.

"He would be a very good candidate. Although PDP-Laban (Partido Demokratikong PilipinoLakas ng Bayan), dili na sya LP (Liberal Party), but I would support him personally kung modagan sya as third district congressman," Davide said.

Davide added choosing his runningmate will have to be discussed by his party since there are factors that need to be considered.

Diamante thanked Davide for expressing his support for him.

"Pero sama sa akoang giingon nga walay kumo sa pagsuway," says Diamante.

Diamante said he is happy of the support even if he is a member of the ruling PDP-Laban and Davide belongs to LP.

Diamante, who is currently the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter, was a former LP member.
