Formative School to venture into futsal
The University of the Visayas (UV) Lancers shoot for a double championship but they must brace for a daring fightback from their rivals in Game 2 of the best-of-three 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner's Cup finals today at the Cebu Coliseum.
In the collegiate division, the Green Lancers will go for the jugular when they take on the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the main match at 6:45 pm.
The Baby Lancers are eyeing the same when they clash anew with the Organique California-University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in the 5:15 p.m. opener.
Both UV ballclubs used a torrid first-half offensive to win the series openers.
Interestingly, the Green Lancers beat the Webmasters soundly, 78-60, despite their 6-foot-8 import Lassina Coulibaly from Ivory Coast was taken out of the playing court with a dislocated right knee with still three minutes left in the first quarter.
The Lancers thrived with its alllocal crew partly because UC's Cameroonian reinforcement Frederick Elombi went to the freezer and finished with a measly five points.
With Coulibaly ruled out for Game 2, Elombi is expected to bounce back as the Webmasters will try to extend their series into its full route.
To achieve their target, the Webmasters must also try to recover from their poor outside shooting, so horrendous that they misfired even on their close-range attempts. At one point, UC missed six straight shots in a single possession.
For them to get back at the Lancers, the Webmasters must also count on the likes of Justine Dacalos, John Calvin Jabello, Darrell Shane Menina, Dave Peligrino, Joven Tagudin, Peter Codilla and Paul Galinato, who was a non-factor in their 18-point setback.
The Lancers, on the other hand, hope to draw stellar performances from the likes of Josue Segumpan, Sheldon Gahi, Michael Maestre, Jancork Cabahug, and Gileant Delator as they go for a clean sweep.
Reigning CESAFI MVP Rey Anthony Suerte is also itching to rebound after scoring only six in Game 1 as well as sharp-shooting guard Tristan Albina, something that the Webmasters must prepare for.
In the juniors play, the Baby Lancers will again rely on Joshua Yerro, Beirn Anthony Laurente, Mar Leando Actub, Samuel Melicor, and Gabriel George Cometa as they aim to wrap up the series.
The Baby Panthers, on the other hand, must squeeze the most from star guard Kyle Ochavo, John Miguel Maglasang, Rojan Montemayor, Neon Chavez, Chris Isabelo, and the Singson cousins Elijah and Ramon if they want to live and fight for another day.—
