CPDRC officials destroy contrabands
Several cellular phones and other contrabands confiscated from inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) during greyhound operations were destroyed by jail officials yesterday.
Gadgets were run over by dump trucks while cigarettes, tobacco, knives, drug paraphernalia and other contrabands were burned.
"I have selective greyhound, by selda lang. There's what we call three strikes policy. If ever the third time naa gihapon ang paraphernalia .... ang nahitabo giguba ang mga kubol," jail warden Reynaldo Valmoria said.
He started the greyhound operation in selected prison cells after he assumed office last May 25, 2018.
Personnel of the jail facility had confiscated five small sachets of what is believed to be shabu at the isolation cell where there are high profile inmates.
Valmoria did not mention the name of the inmate and said the sachets were submitted to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for safekeeping.
Valmoria said they are doing their best to stop the sneaking in of contrabands through strict frisking and checking at the front gate.
Visitors have to undergo three stages of inspection before they can enter the facility.
Valmoria said some tried to throw contrabands at the back portion of the facility but he extended the perimeter fence.
"Dili naman kadiritso kay amo man gipatas-an. Kung asa ang portion nga medyo ubos, akong gipasumpayan. Gilimpyohan nako tanan perimeter, gipamutol nako ang kahoy, so makita gyud nimo kung naay masulod," Valmoria said.
The warden also changed the leadership or ‘panungkolan’ of inmates inside the provincial jail from the one who heads the kitchen to the leaders per cell.
Panungkolan refers to the leaders elected by inmates inside the jail facility commonly known as mayors or ‘bosyo.’
"Tanan sila, ako giusab ang set up sa panungkolan. Before puro drug related (ang kaso) sa naglingkod diha. Ako gi-change nga puros murder kay mo-reflect man gud, kay syempre daghan drugs diri," Valmoria said.
The change aims to instill discipline among inmates.
