The Freeman

Keeper of the Legacy

-

My father, Papa Inting, was a lawyer by profession – and an educator by heart. He had the passion for providing people with lesser means the opportunity to also “find their place under the sun” by giving them access to education. He saw education as the way for the children of poor peasants in and around Cebu to be able to change the quality of life of their families for the better.

So, Papa Inting founded a school. The tuition fee was very affordable, because it was a school intended for those of lesser means. And Papa’s good intention begot good reception. The small school he started grew to become the first university in Cebu.

My parents ran the school like they ran their household. The school was one big happy family. The fatherly and the road bumpy and the uncertainties and risks taken could take its toll. But I am only too happy to take upon myself the responsibility to uphold the legacy of my parents as a way of honoring them. Papa and Mama are my eternal inspiration; with them in my mind, I fight best when the odds are greatest.

I know that my work is far from finished. There are still so many things to do, missions to carry out, dreams to fulfill in the coming years – for the school and its students and the community at large. I am deeply grateful to the Lord for the guidance and for the loving presence of Mama Mary in my life.

And I am very fortunate and happy that in all my undertakings and day-to-day challenges, I have the ever-loving support of my wife Nena.
