PNP to provide Trillanes two security aides
TEMPORARILY
Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has directed the Police Security and Protection Group to provide Senator Antonio Trillanes IV two police security personnel, PNP spokesperson Benigno Durana Jr. said in a statement released yesterday.
The security detail will only be provided to the senator temporarily however, while the PNP reviews all PSPG personnel assigned to VIPs, elected and appointed officials, and private individuals.
Durana said the comprehensive review was "in line with our efforts to maximize the use of available Human Resources intended primarily to perform our core police functions but also with due consideration to the specific security needs of key officials and private individuals."
He added that the move is to "ensure police personnel will not be, wittingly or unwittingly, used by their VIPs for economic or political reasons especially as we approach the election season."
On Saturday, PSPG Director Senior Superintendent Filmore Escobal said they will re-evaluate the decision to recall the security detail assigned to Trillanes.
Trillanes said on Friday that the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the PNP took away his military and police security detail without any explanation effective end of June.
Escobal said on Friday that the PNP did not renew the assignment of police escorts to the senator because he already had six—two from AFP, two from the Philippine Navy, and two from the Senate.
