Bodies found belong to lovers

-

The man and woman found dead with gunshot wounds in Barangay San Roque, Liloan town on Tuesday morning were lovers, police said.

Chief Insp. Randy Korret, chief of Liloan police, identified them as Stephen del Corro, 26, a former call center worker, and Jaime Mata a.k.a. “Mayang,” a 16-yearold Grade 9 student from Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

They were positively identified by their relatives.

Mata’s body was first discovered in a ravine in Purok Sandayong at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday while that of del Corro was later found about 30 meters away in Purok Kawasan.

Del Corro’s relatives, who spoke to The FREEMAN on conditions of anonymity, were calling for justice for his death.

They said they last saw the two Sunday. That afternoon, Mata allegedly invited del Corro to go to Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City for an unknown reason.

The two were onboard a motorcycle driven by del Corro, but the vehicle had not been found at the crime scene.

After Sunday, del Corro had not been answering the calls and chats from relatives.

“Adto na siya magulian sa Mandaue pero mo-text ug motubag gyud na siya kung tawagan,” a relative said.

It was known that Del Corro had since moved to Mandaue City from Tisa three months ago after some people he did not know allegedly came to look for him.

He would often go back to Tisa to visit his one-yearold child from a previous relationship.

Police investigation is now leaning towards two angles: del Corro’s alleged involvement in fraternity and love triangle.

Korret said del Corro held a high position in a frat group. It cannot be ascertained whether Mata was also a member of the group.

“Di rin siguro to drugs kasi parang di sila user kasi makinis sila. Healthy, di tulad sa usual na user,” said Korret.

The police chief is theorizing that the two were killed at the site where their bodies were discovered as corroborated by statements from residents who heard gunshots there.

Liloan police are still facing a blank wall as to who could have killed the two.

Meanwhile, a habalhabal driver was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants yesterday afternoon along the national highway in Barangay Don Gregorio Antigua, Borbon town, northern Cebu.

The victim was identified as Ernesto Pogado, 30, a resident of Barangay Pio in the adjacent town of Tabogon.

Police Officer 2 Rogelio Sinadhan, case investigator, said they are still investigating to check the motive in the killing and to identify the perpetrators. They are also verifying reports that the victim was in the police watchlist of criminals. —
