ABC-Cebu bets run unopposed

-

All candidates for the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Cebu province are sure winners as they are running unopposed.

Incumbent ABC-Cebu President Celestino Martinez III, who sits as an ex-officio member of the Provincial Board, remains uncontested in his re-election bid.

“Magpasalamat lang ko na I am given such another term. We can finish what we started. And hopefully we can do some more in the coming months and coming years. Of course, with the continuous support sa atong members sa Liga,” he said.

Aside from Martinez, Nerisa Arquillano of San Francisco town (auditor), Bernabe Gonzales Jr. of Balamban town and Wilfredo Diamante of Tuburan town (both councilors) will serve another term.

Samboan ABC President Raymond Calderon, on the other hand, will sit as the league’s vice president.

Also, Juvenal Chiong (Naga City), Marieta Bucao (Talisay City), Guillermo Caminero Jr. (Argao town), Joie Genesse Derama (Oslob town), Vicente Fernandez (Dumanjug town), and Joseph Redula (Alegria town) are all running uncontested.

“Actually, mao man na ang ni file…I felt sila makadalag tingog sa ilang constituents sa ilang areas and also sa barangay captains,” Martinez said.

According to the Commission on Elections, candidates running unopposed need only one vote to be proclaimed winners.

The ABC-Cebu polls are set on Monday, July 30.

Cebu has 51 local government units, excluding the autonomous cities of Lapu-Lapu and Cebu. —
