The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas has turned P823,650 worth of livelihood aid to at least 157 tricycle drivers from Danao City, northern Cebu.

The cash assistance, which is part of DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), will be spent for the operation of motorcycle repair and body building shop, and fast moving basic spare parts trading as the drivers’ alternative source of income.

The profits from the repair shop will be on top of their daily income from ferrying passengers.

The beneficiaries are members of the DanaoCompostela Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (DACOTODA), which is an accredited partner of DOLE.

DACOTODA president Rogelio Rebondo thanked DOLE for the aid.

“We promise to take good care of the funds,” he said.

DACOTODA is in charge of the canvassing and procurement of items, as well as the liquidation of expenses and implementation of the project.

Lawyer Alvin Villamor, DOLE-7 regional director, said the agency will continue providing sustainable projects.

He said all submitted project proposals will go through a series of processes, such as evaluation and validation, to ensure that all guidelines are complied with.

The criteria are stipulated under DOLE’s Kabuhayan Program. —
