doing it. We believe there is an audience out there.”

Good thing, Direk Erik met Viva’s top honcho Vic del Rosario and his son Vincent in Hong Kong. They talked about the possibility of doing a project together.

“I thought maybe the project will be discussed in a later time. When I arrived at the airport after our trip to Hong Kong, I got a call from Vincent, asking me if I could do ‘BuyBust’ for them and if Anne Curtis would fit the role. Of course I said yes. Then he told me to tell Anne the story of ‘BuyBust’ and after talking to her, she readily accepted the project.”

Naturally, Direk Erik was overjoyed. Anne as the lead is a bonus for the film and so interested was the actress in the movie that she told him she wanted to undergo training to make her fit the role.

“I am lucky that Anne accepted the movie. She really gave her everything to the film. You can see that she is very much inspired in doing her role. No matter how difficult the scenes, she had no complaints. She has had her share of cuts and bruises but she was a real trouper. She did what she needed to do and more,” added the director.

So impressed was Direk Erik of Anne’s derring-do that he is predicting his actress will surely get acting nomination for her work in “BuyBust.”

Here are what the critics say about the film:

“Erik Matti’s furious and ultraviolent action thriller” – Hollywood Reporter

“Performances from the rest of the huge cast are spot-on, right down to bit parts.” –Variety

“Non-stop adrenaline-soaked bloodbath.” –Film Pulse “Brilliantly executed.” –Screen Daily

“It’s the exact sort of movie you run out of the theatre to rub your friends’ faces in the fact that they missed it.” – Cinapsens

“BuyBust” opens today in cinemas nationwide.

The concert titled “Music and Laughter” featuring impressionist Willie Nepomuceno and famed balladeer Nonoy Zuñiga played to a fullhouse when it was staged at The Theatre at Solaire last Friday, July 27.

Easily the most entertaining part of the show was when Nonoy traced his roots as a singer: from the time he started his career as a folk singer, then being a member of the Family Birth Control Band, and then embarking on a career as a recording artist under Jem Records where he recorded the many hits of the award-winning composer Willie Cruz.

As a folk singer, he rendered all-time favorites like “Vincent,” “Danny’s Song,” “Photographs and Memories,” and “It Doesn’t Matter Anyhow.” In the Family Birth Control Band Suite, he did “I Don’t Wanna Lose You,” “Just As Long As We Have Love,” “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and “Betcha By Golly Wow.”

But the most applauded part of Nonoy’s portion of the concert was when he sang his signature songs – Ako Ay Ikaw Rin, Kumusta Ka, Init Sa Magdamag, Fragments of Forever, Love Without Time, Live For Love, Araw-Gabi and Never Ever Say Goodbye.

For his part, Willie Nep did a few of his impressions as he mimicked the late comedy king Dolphy, former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, to name a few.

Willie also said that this is now his second life after he suffered a stroke that nearly took his life. But he has never lost his comic timing.

Nonoy and Willie ended the show by doing a medley of hit songs by The Beatles.

Julius Alfonso’s sophomore film, “Harry & Patty,” under Cineko Productions, opens today in cinemas nationwide. This is Direk Julius’ follow-up to the critically-acclaimed “Deadma Walking” which made a mark at the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Harry & Patty” stars Ahron Villena and Kakai Bautista in an unconventional love story produced by Cineko Productions.

Direk Julius is hopeful that “Harry & Patty” will also get a warm reception from the public just like “Deadma Walking.”
