Davide to sign 93-1 lots donation today

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III is scheduled to sign today the deed of donation for the 93-1 properties from the provincial government to the city government.

The lots, with a total land area of 32.4 hectares, are located in Cebu City but are owned by the provincial government and are homes to at least 5,000 families.

Hoping to own the lots, t he homeowners organized themselves and sought help from the government in 2006.

After today’s signing, the properties will be owned by the Cebu City government and the lots will be sold to the occupants.

Provincial Legal Officer Orvi Ortega said that the negotiations have been done. With the draft deed approved by the Provincial Board, all that is needed is the signature of Davide and Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

After the signing, Ortega said that both the Capitol and the City Hall will work out a new Memorandum of Agreement ( MOA) with the Metropolitan Cebu Water District ( MCWD) for the management of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

“We will be having another agreement with MCWD to continue operating one ( STP) which will also cater to other local government units in the Province of Cebu,” he said.

The STP is built on a Cebu City property in the North Reclamation Area which will now be donated to the Cebu Provincial Government.

The Cebu City government will not lose its stake in the STP even after the lot is donated considering that it has invested in the facility.

I nstead, t he new MOA will stipulate that Cebu City government, MCWD, and Cebu Province will have percentage share of STP revenues.

Ortega said they have drafted the MOA although he cannot reveal the terms and conditions yet. —
