Fil-Am kid smashes Phelps’ swimming record
He’s no Superman but you might as well regard him as somewhat close to one.
Filipino-American Clark Kent Apuada is now regarded as such after breaking the record of the world’s most decorated Olympian in Michael Phelps over the weekend.
The 10-year-old Apuada shattered Phelps’ 100-meter butterfly record that has been standing since 1995 after clocking in 1:09:38 in the Far West International Championship in California.
"I love swimming because I have a lot of people supporting me and my coaches … my parents are always there," Clark told CNN in a report that was first made Wednesday in Manila.
Apuada looks primed for greater things as his immaculate feat arrived only four years into his competitive swimming career.
Phelps — who went on to capture a total of 28 medals in his myriad stints in the Olympiad — was at 1:10:48.
“This record has motivated me to keep swimming, to keep striving and do everything I can to get to that elite level,” Apuada told the Huffington Post.
The young athlete inidicated that he has zeroed in on the idea of competing in the Olympic Games — whether it’s in the 2024 games in Paris or the next one in Los Angeles.
“Never give up on your dreams,” he added in the same interview when asked about his drive. —
