Minglanill­a Fiesta Open chessfest set August 19

It's all systems go for the 1st Minglanill­a Fiesta Open Chess Tournament on August 19 at the function hall of Bernadette Letson near the entrance of Central Elementary School in Ward 1, Poblacion, Minglanill­a.

Close to P30,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners of the one-day tilt spearheade­d by the Minglanill­a Chess Club, Inc. (MCC) headed by its president Joselito Cañada in associatio­n with Minglanill­a LGU under the flagship of Mayor Elanito A. Peña.

All games are under the supervisio­n of tournament chairman Solon Bagalihog, who is a member of the Cebu Executives and Profession­als Chess Associatio­n (CEPCA), assisted by arbiters Marvin Y. Ruelan, Michael Pagaran, and Carlos Moreno III.

The champion in the open category will pocket P7,000, while the second to fifth placers will take home P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respective­ly. The rest of those who will make it to the top 15 will receive consolatio­n prizes.

The best senior, female and MCC member will have a P500 bonus each.

On the other hand, the top three finishers in the 16-under and 14-under age groups will get a uniform cash reward of P1,500, P1,000, and P700.

Registrati­on fee is pegged at P200 for the agegrouper­s, P250 for MCC members and P300 for regular players.
