2 Korean missionari­es injured in road mishap

Two Korean missionari­es were injured after their rented car fell into the ditch along the national highway of Barangay El Pardo, Boljoon, Cebu dawn of Saturday.

The injured victims, who sustained minor injuries in different parts of their body, were identified by the police as Ha Soon Jung, 59, and Nam Sun Choi, 59, and are temporaril­y residing in Negros Oriental.

Police Officer 1 Nitchell Angelo Carbo of the Boljoon Police Station said the victims were onboard a rented Hi-Ace van driven by a certain Arnulfo Matoug, 43, and were on their way to Liloan, Santander Port coming from Cebu City.

Carbo said that upon arriving at Barangay El Pardo, the van suddenly swerved to the right and subsequent­ly fell into a ditch along the road and hit a concrete wall which caused the victims to sustain those injuries.

The victims were immediatel­y rushed to the nearest hospital and were later transferre­d to Dumaguete, as per their request.

Matoug, on other hand, was immediatel­y released by the police after both parties agreed to settle.

Meanwhile, a 39-yearold man died after being runover by a ten-wheeler truck while crossing the national highway in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Balamban, Cebu last Saturday morning.

The victim was identified by the police as Fransisco Laag, 39, a resident of Barangay Baliwagan, Balamban.

Initial investigat­ion led by Police Officer 3 Edzel Aguanta revealed that the victim suddenly crossed the road while a 10-wheeler dump truck, driven by Richard Olivar, 29, was approachin­g.

The victim suffered major injuries that resulted to his instantane­ous death.
