Cebu leg of Laban ng Lahi set Aug. 26

Seeing running as a way to uplift the image of Filipinos and promote unity in the country, the Laban ng Lahi will stage its Central Visayas leg on August 26 in Lapu-Lapu City.

Hundreds of runners are expected to join the race, which features 10K and 5K distances.

Laban ng Lahi President and Founder Joenel Pogoy, who is also a former captain of the Philippine Air Force, said that the primary objective of the race is to uphold patriotism for the country.

"The main objectives of this running event are, first to promote our country's tourism and culture, next is to achieve national unity and third is to give back to the community through our livelihood projects that is part of our advocacies," Pogoy said.

The organizers will also hold regional eliminatio­ns in General Santos City, Iloilo City, Baguio and Pangasinan.

Cash prizes and medals are at stake for the top performers. The champions in the 10K men’s and women’s will receive P15,000, while the second and third placers will get P4,000 and P1,500, respective­ly.

The top three finishers in the 5K will receive P5,000, P1,500 and P1,000, respective­ly, while the top three foreign winners will get P5,000, P3,000 and P1,000, respective­ly.

Registrati­on fee is pegged at P500 for 5K and P700 for 10K inclusive of race shirt, singlet and postrace refreshmen­ts. Entry forms are available at SM City Cebu, Mactan Island Golf Club and ShangriLa's Mactan Resort and Spa.—
