A new security camera system worth P1.6 million will soon be added to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) after the governor was given the green light to award the contract to MM & S Enterprises.

The said bidder has offered the lowest cost of P1,632,305, which is around P300,000 lower than the P1,957,000 approved budget for the contract. The system, as stated in the resolution, includes one lot high definition CCTV and wireless infrastructure system.

“The said system is pivotal in the move to fully equip the CPDRC with the required devices that may help in the operations of the Center most especially in the aspect of monitoring,” stated in the approved resolution.

The said authorization was given by the Provincial Board (PB) during a special session Wednesday last week.

Provincial Board Member Sun Shimura, who authored the resolution, told reporters that it is high time for the jail facility to boost its monitoring capabilities given the densely populated Center and consistency of confiscating contrabands during greyhound operations.

“There’s also a need gyud for monitoring kay kana man gud nga tawo, corruptible man gud. So, patabang ta aning atong mga technologies karon,” he said.

Shimura is the current chair of the Committee on Public Safety, Peace, and Order.

Back in August 2017, the former Officer-inCharge of CPDRC Bobby Legaspi shared that there are around 30 functional CCTV cameras within the jail facility. However, these cameras were old models and need to be upgraded.

He continued then that the additional CCTVs are preferable to be placed in high vantage points which can monitor the perimeter. —
