CCPO to closely monitor AWOL cops

- — Mae

The Cebu City Police Office will closely monitor the activities of rogue cops who went on absence without leave (AWOL) following the arrest of two former cops last Saturday.

Senior Superintendent Royina Garma said the move will serve as counter-measure to the tagging of President Rodrigo Duterte that Cebu cops are “addict”.

“Totoo naman, kahit anong organization, ganuon pa rin may mga pasaway. This is part of our internal cleansing. That's why the President is not wrong, tama siya,” she said.

The two AWOL cops were identified as Julius Nacua, 46, who had the rank of Police Office 2 and former Police Officer 1 Alberto Veliganio, 46.

Nacua was arrested in a buy bust operation in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City while Veliganio was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant in Barangay Talisay, Santa Fe.

Police seized from Nacua P118,000 worth of drugs while P144,000 worth of drugs were recovered from Veliganio.

Nacua was formerly assigned in Bohol while Veliganio was from the Regional Mobile Force Batallion in Region 7.

Garma said the two will undergo a debriefing interview to extract information on the supplier of the illegal drugs.

“And you know, with the information we have from the arrested, ito ang nagiging lead namin para pangitaon pud among mga kauban and initiate pud mga programs sa among internal cleansing,” Garma said.

Superintendent Artemio Ricabo, Deputy City Director of CCPO, told The FREEMAN in another phone interview that the Cebu City Intelligence Branch will handle tracking and monitoring of cops who are already dropped from the rolls.

“Ang atong intelligence personnel both sa City and Region ang tasked nga mu-monitor ana nila bisan pag AWOL ka,” he said.
