Accenture Sharks stay perfect in E-Leagues

Jetro Gonzaga, Archie Brian Vincent Batua and Ryan Veloso stole the thunder as the Accenture Sharks blasted the Sykes Pioneers, 80-60, to keep their unbeaten record intact in the Elite Classic of the Tanduay Athletics E-League for Basketball Season 14 last Saturday at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

Gonzaga dropped 15 points on top of five rebounds, and three steals, Batua scored 14, hauled three boards and two steals, while Veloso tossed in 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists as the Sharks firmed up their grip of the solo lead with a clean 6-0 slate.

The Sharks actually had a lackluster start resulting to an early 10-23 deficit but countered with a 23-12 rally to narrow the gap down to 33-35 at halftime.

After outscoring the Pioneers in the third period, 23-17, the Sharks ended the match with a devastatin­g 24-9 bomb for the 20-point blowout.

Jan Michael Auditor piled up 30 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists, Earldred Cesar Montilla nailed 14 markers laced with four rebounds, five assists, and three steals but to no avail as the Pioneers suffered their only second loss in seven starts.

In other Elite Classic games, Johnrey Girasol unloaded 30 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists as the QBE Generals stunned the ePerformax Reds, 74-72, for their first win, while reigning grandslam champions Convergys Converters checked their slide with a 85-75 drubbing of the Telstra-Teletech Boomerangs.

Stuart Foot banged in 12 points as QBE stopped its three-game jinx.

Convergys, on the other hand, improved to 3-3 behind a balanced offensive attack from Jaime Pacquiao Jr., Ildefonso Bulangis, and Roderick Mangubat who finished with a combined total of 57 points.

In the lone EVO League match, Ariel Ramonito Edera scattered 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals and one rebound, while Matthew Grafilo and Victor Vanzuela each scored 11 as the Kyocera Frontiers downed the Research NowSSI Warriors, 65-49, for their fourth victory against a solitary defeat.
