Cobras shoot for second win

- GAMES TODAY 5:15 p.m. SWU vs USPF (srs.) 6:45 p.m. USC vs CIT-U (srs.)

The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras hope to make it two wins in a row when they take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

During the season-opening games last Saturday, the Mike Reyes-mentored Cobras opened their title campaign on a bright note via an 87-53 shellacking of the Cebu Institute of Technology - University (CIT-U) Wildcats.

As usual, the Cobras will bank on their tested gunners led by Sir Shaquille Imperial and Red Louis Cachuela, their prized catch from Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, as they go for the early lead in the seniors division.

The Cobras can also count on the likes of Edmundo Bayhonan, Reeve Ugsang, William Polican, Gerald Fernandez, Renzo Calumpang, Dominic de Lara, Allyn Dyll Roncal, and Ramish Alforque.

With Cameroonian import Rich Managor in tow, the Panthers also pin their hopes on Roy Quiachon, Edwin Villarta, Kenneth Cada, Rodelio Cauba, Alje Mendez, Rendy Sarahina, John Paul Batac, Lugie Cuyos, and

Mike Patalinghug.

Right after the Cobras and the Panthers collide in the 5:15 p.m. curtain raiser, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the CIT-U Wildcats will try to break into the win column as they go up against each other in the main match at 6:45 pm.

Like the Wildcats, the Warriors were also beaten to the pulp in their opening assignment against the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 50-72.

For them to bounce back, the Warriors must draw big games from their import Sonti Managor and old reliables in Kent Cabañog, John Reel Saycon, Lucky Ecarma, Jules Langres, and Gio Laguyo.

The Wildcats, on their end, will count the most from flashy guard Kenny Rogers Rocacurva, Rey Gonzaga, John King, Mark Kong, Kelvin Maglasang, and Kevin Oleodo among others.—
