Bogus PDEA agent nabbed

A fake Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) agent was arrested by the police in Sitio Magay, Barangay Tanke, Talisay City Thursday morning.

The suspect was identified as Nathaniel Echavez, 48, a resident of Zone 3 Hilltop, Barangay Lagtang.

“Daghan pa gyud kaayo siya’g gidala nga pangalan sa opisyal sa PDEA pero wala may nakaila niya,” Miñoza said.

As a standard procedure, the police looked into the suspect’s background and checked with PDEA-7 but no one in the office recognized him. The police seized two shirts with PDEA markings from the suspect.

Insp. Rolando Logroño, deputy chief of Talisay City Police Station, said the suspect had been dropping the names of police officials in the city and the PDEA to extort money from the illegal drug players in Barangay Tanke.

Meanwhile, two suspected drug users were also arrested during the operation. They were identified as Robert Remollo, 28, resident of Labajo Compound, Campo 2, Barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City and Lito Bascon Jr., 21, resident of Sitio Alayon, Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Logroño said both Remollo and Bascon passed by the area during the arrest of Echavez. They were allegedly acting suspiciously prompting the police to interrogate them. Logroño said they found packs of shabu in their possession resulting in their arrest.

All three suspects are now detained at the Talisay City Police Station pending the filing of appropriate charges.—
