Comelec holds off-site voter’s registration
ILOILO CITY — The daily satellite registration conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Iloilo City will end September 18, after which the unserved clients will have theirs at Robinson's Place from September 19 to 29.
Election officer Jonathan Sayno yesterday said they have been conducting off-site registration to cater to voters in preparation for next year's elections.
“Our main office in Manila has required us to conduct a satellite registration to reach out to sectors like persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and first time voters who do not give attention to registration. The point is for them to be able to participate and exercise their right of suffrage,” Sayno said.
Comelec personnel went to the barangays in Arevalo, Molo and Mandurriao districts where smaller barangays were clustered into one venue for the registration. “In every district, we have five venues for the registration,” Sayno said.
From August 29 until September 7, the registration has been serving barangays in the City Proper district and from September 8 to15 in La Paz district.
Meanwhile, a two-day registration will be held for male inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ungka and female inmates in General Luna this September 17-18. The Comelec attends to an average of 300 clients daily.
