The Cebu City government is planning to develop the Pasil Fish Market in Barangay Suba by putting up a boardwalk and seafood restaurants.

Councilor Joy Augustus Young told The FREEMAN that the City Planning and Development Office is now working on the program of works and estimates (POWE) to determine the cost estimates of the development.

Young, chairman of the council committee on trade, commerce, and entrepreneurship, said City South District Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa vowed to look for funding.

“Abellanosa volunteered to get funding from the national government. It is still being arranged,” he said.

Young said the construction may start in early next year.

“Ang ground floor fish market na for whole sale and ang second floor boardwalk na and ang atubangan restaurant,” he said.

“The whole area will be uplifted because number one the people will have a livelihood. Daghan man makatrabaho ana daghang makabaligya, so makakwarta ang mga taw. Monindot ang ilahang balay, they can send their children to school,” he added.

The councilor posted the development on his Facebook account on August 30, garnering over 600 reactions and around 900 shares as of yesterday afternoon.

One of those who commented on the post was Merela Carrido, who wrote, “Nice, I hope it brings in a lot of tourists and business. For the economy of the city, the province, and the country.”

Young said the same project was lobbied years back, but did not push through due to budget constraints.

Young is optimistic the development will prosper. —
