Cebu City Sharksplummet to the bottom of standings

At the tailend in a field of 26 teams.

That is unwanted place the Cebu City Sharks languish right now in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League standings.

The Casino Activebacked Sharks sank deeper into that pitiful position after getting clobbered by Imus Bandera, 61-90, in the 2018 MPBL Anta Datu Cup last Tuesday night at the Imus City Sports Complex in Imus, Cavite.

With only one win to show in eight games, the Sharks found themselves in another embarrassing situation knowing that Cebu is the hotbed of basketball outside of Metro Manila.

Since snapping out of their woeful 0-4 start with a breakthrough win over the defending champion Batangas City Athletics, the Sharks are on a threegame slump again.

Against Imus, the Sharks were in fighting form only in the first half that saw them trailing by just two points at the break, 32-34.

But host Bandera detonated a devastating a 30-11 bomb in the third quarter to turn the once lose match into a lopsided battle.

Ahead by 21 points after three quarters, 64-43, Imus further outpointed Cebu in the final frame, 26-18, for the 29-point blowout.

Jerwin Gaco finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while James Darwin Castro scattered 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds as Imus raised its record to 4-3.

William McAloney had a breakout performance of 15 points and 13 rebounds for Cebu but his efforts went down the drain.

Patrick Cabahug was the only other doubledigit scorer with 15 points laced with three rebounds and as many assists for the Sharks, who will try to put break on their slide when they take on the Quezon City Capitals on September 15 at the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor, Cavite.
