3 Cebu grads in top 10 of 2 board exams
Three graduates from Cebu landed in the top 10 of two board exams recently administered by the Professional Regulations Commission.
Mark Rene Trapila, 22, finished 9th place with an average score of 90.05 percent in Electrical Engineering Licensure Exams. Trapila, a scholar of the Department of Science and Technology, graduated Magna Cum Laude at the Cebu Technological University last April.
He was the only graduate from Cebu who made it to the top 10 in the licensure examinations administered by the PRC last September 1 and 2.
In an interview with The FREEMAN, Trapila said that financial problem was big challenge for him to finish his degree. He was thankful to have granted the DOST scholarship.
Trapila said he had to juggle school and work to provide for his family after his father passed away in 2017 while he was still fourth year in the university.
He said he had to go home every weekend to work as tourist guide at the famous whale-watching site in Oslob. His income augments his mother’s earnings from toiling their small farm. He said their income was never enough for his allowance and his seven other siblings.
Trapila said he hopes that his story will serve as inspiration for other students to strive hard in their studies and prove that poverty is never a hindrance to succeed. He said after graduation he continued to work as boatman and tour guide while preparing for the board exam.
Trapila said he was surprised to receive congratulatory messages last Thursday telling him that he was one of those who topped the exams.
In another board exam, another CTU graduate ranked 9th in the master electrician licensure examinations held last September 3. Janito Salipdan Jr. graduated from CTU in Tuburan. Jhonielhu Caluña, graduate from the University of Cebu, also placed 10th in the same exam. —
