HUSBAND SHOOTS WIFE BEFORE KILLING SELF

- Rowena D. Capistrano, Correspondent

It was a marriage that did not end well. A man killed himself after shooting his wife to death in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City late evening last Friday night.

Police said the husband anwife are both 48 years old. The Freeman is witholding the names of the couple owing to the sensitive nature of the incident.

PO2 Justino Paragados, desk officer of the Pardo Police Station, said they responded to the crime scene, the house of thewife's parents, after receiving a report of a shooting.

Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) arrived only to see the couple already dead inside the room the wife was occupying.

Paragados said the couple was not in good terms and the wife stayed at her parents’ house. That night, the husband arrived reportedly drunk, and figured in an argument with his wife. Bursts of gunfire were heard with the wife ending up with five gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber pistol. The husband, meanwhile, shot himself through his mouth.

After seeing what had happened, the wife's mother suffered from a heart attack and landed in the hospital.

The couple’s children refused to comment but the husband's uncle who asked not to be identified told The FREEMAN that never did he expect the couple to suffer that fate.

The uncle said that he was still able to speak with Aldrin earlier that night and he never sensed that Aldrin was planning something bad.

He said the couple had an argument during the barangay’s fiesta but he did not know what the reason was.

NOT HOSTAGE

Barangay Inayawan captain Kirk Bryan Repollo clarified that Aldrin did not hold his wife hostage, contrary to reports that came out the night of the incident.

He said the couple’s relationship has been unstable and they had been arguing constantly, which was why Gina was already staying at her parents’ house.

In fact, Repollo said, the barangay had to issue a Barangay Protection Order for Gina in August this year after she sought the barangay’s help against her husband who she said had been hurting her physically.

Reports have it that Aldrin would turn jealous each time he would get drunk.

Residents at the area described Gina as being friendly.
