The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) is now looking after those persons spreading false messages on social media, as they have caused emotional disturbance and panic to Oponganons.

LCPO Director Limuel Obon told the media yesterday that he already directed the police chiefs and its intelligence personnel to investigate the social media message that there are people allegedly planning to retaliate.

“Una, hanapin sa Facebook, (in coordination) sa cybercrime. You are sowing terror to our people whatever is your purpose. Ngano man diay, tigpamaba ka sa mga terrorista ug sa mga criminals? Kung imong purpose is to warn other people, do not do it because people will panic, it will not help,” Obon said.

After seven individuals were killed in a police encounter last September 26 in Sitio St. Michael, Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City, message about alleged revenge from the Muslim community has spread like wildfire.

In the official Facebook page of LCPO, the “LapuLapu City PNP PRO-7” has strongly advised netizens to be responsible social media users.

“Ang kapulisan sa Lapu-Lapu City Police Office miawhag sa publiko sa reponsabling pag-gamit sa social media, ilabi na ani nga post nga maka mugna kahadlok sa katawhan. Ug naa may mga impormasyon ipahibalo sa among buhatan para ato ma-aksyonan,” read the message from their Facebook page, including the screenshot of a controversial message.

Obon, however, stressed that these people are also trying to make an issue between Christians and Muslims.

“And you are also sowing para mag-away ang Kristiyano ug Muslims. This is not a war between Muslims and Christians, this is a war against criminals. Bawal na kay that is a prohibition of Cybercrime law,” the police chief said.

He explained further that the relationship between the police and Muslim community was not affected by the shooting incident.

They support the police efforts in fighting crimes and illegal drugs.

There are also other members of the community that wants peace and does not want conflict with other people, according to Obon.

On the ongoing search against those remaining members of the gun-forhire group, Obon said that 10 other persons, including its leader, are now out of the city after the encounter happened.

Police already have the name of the group leader from their credible witness but he declined to reveal it.

Obon said neighboring police counterparts, including the cities of Mandaue and Cebu, are in close coordination with LCPO for the possible arrest of the other members-atlarge.
