Ginebra snaps Phoenix's win streak

-

Matthew Wright looked like he was on his way to saving the day for the Phoenix Fuel Masters, but Justin Brownlee stripped the basketball from behind to allow his Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to escape with 101-99 victory in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City on Saturday.

Brownlee paced his team with 34 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. He receive a lot of help from Scottie Thompson who stepped up in the absence of Ginebra bigs Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar. The high-leaping guard tallied 12 points, 14 boards and six dimes.

Wright led the way for the Fuel Masters with 27 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc. However, it was his last turnover that cost them the game.

Eugene Phelps finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Calvin Abueva contributed 17 points and nine boards before exiting the game with cramps.

After snapping Phoenix's three-game winning streak, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel takes a solo lead in the Governors' Cup with 5-1 record.

Meanwhile in the Sunday double-header, TNT KaTropa seeks its second straight victory against the winless NorthPort Batang Pier at 4:30 p.m, while San Miguel Beermen with new import Kevin Murphy takes on Magnolia Hotshots at 6:45 p.m. —
