Tabunok rules juniors division in Gullas Cup
Raffy Bacasmas sparkled with 20 points while three others cashed in double figures as Tabunok decimated Lawaan III, 96-70, in their lopsided final match to clinch the juniors division championship of the Talisay City Sports Commission-organized 2018 Mayor Eduardo 'Eddiegul' R. Gullas Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament last Friday night at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Oudy Francis Acedo unloaded 16 points, while Aaron Bucao and Aaron Jeff Nacario each scored 14 for Tabunok, which was firmly in control of the match since posting a 46-34 advantage at halftime.
Even though they're comfortably ahead after three quarters, 69-50, Tabunok even grew fiercer offensively in the closing minutes of the contest to come up with a masterful 26-point demolition.
Bacasmas, who dropped 16 points in the middle quarters where Tabunok pounded Lawaan III at will leading to the blowout victory, romped off with the Most Valuable Player award.
Bacasmas is joined in the Mythical Five by his teammates Oudy Francis Acedo and AJ Nacario, and Jay Deiparine and Ruel Barliso of Lawaan III.
Tabunok took home P25,000, while Lawaan III, led by Jay Deiparine with 12 points got P20,000.
In the battle for third place, Ronan Briones and Han Callow Bolo combined for a total of 42 points as Pooc walloped Tanke, 94-76.
Rubino Singson, Jr. added 11 points, while Hearvey Bolo and Shaundy Alipio connived for 17 points for Pooc, which never gave Tanke some breathing space after racing to a hot 27-13 start.
The outcome of the match was already a foregone conclusion when Pooc mounted a 77-53 lead heading into the final 10-minute mark of play.
Ryan Mar Obrero topscored for Tanke with 19 points, while Cyd Paulo Penas and Jommelito Dacua nailed 15 and 13 markers, respectively, in a losing cause.
