UV, UC eye crucial wins

-

In just a two-day span, league heavyweights University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will plunge back into hardcourt action, still against separate foes in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum

today.

Last Tuesday night, the Lancers made mincemeat of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 98-79, while the Webmasters tamed the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 65-56.

The Lancers thus jumped to solo second place with a 7-3 win-loss record, while the Webmnasters tightened their grip of the lead with an 9-1 slate.

They are hoping to get past their respective rivals tonight to galvanize their bid to secure twice-to-beat incentives in the semifinal round.

The Lancers will lock up honors with the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the 5:15 p.m. opener, while the Webmasters will square off against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the main match at 6:45 pm.

The Lancers are hard-pressed to win over the Warriors as they will be facing off with the Webmasters in their final assignment in the double round elimination.

Should the Lancers emerge victorious, they will seal the No.2 spot and enjoy a twice-to-beat edge in the last round of four without any glitch if ever the Webmasters will beat the Jaguars, who currently stand with a 6-3 mark.

On the other hand, the 4-6 Warriors are eyeing for a crucial victory as they are locked up in a tight battle with the 5-6 Panthers for the fourth and last semis berth.—
