Tayud bags Midgets A crown

Tayud swept Danlag in their best-of-three finals series anchored on a 99-91 victory in Game 2 to bag the Midgets Category A crown of the 8th Mayor Teresa ‘Nene’ P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball League in Consolacion.
Harvey Ano-os topscored with 20 points, while Aljo Ruiz and Jowil Sugarol tallied 35 points across their names for Tayud, which rode on a searing third-quarter run to turn the tables on Danlag.
Trailing the entire first half, 48-50, Tayud outpointed Danlag in the third, 21-11, to seize control of the match, 69-61, for good.
Supported by barangay captain Blessilda Villo and SK chairperson Larra Luna Lauron, Tayud is under the tutelage of Ramel de la Vega, the assistant coach of the Sacred Heart SchoolAteneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles.
Clark Jugan paced Danlag with 31 points, Jonas Chu scored 23, while Sealtel Yap nailed 15 markers in a losing cause.
In the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A, JC Escalona scattered 19 points while the Moneva brothers Russel and Rexon connived for 23 points as Pulpogan trounced Tayud, 103-90, to draw first blood in their best-of-three title showdown.
Jessel Gungob finished with 18 points, while Chris Yonnel Perolino added 17 for Pulpogan, which outfoxed Tayud quarter after quarter to come up with a 13-point romp.
John Carlo Alinsug led Tayud with 29 points, while Reygie Gabato and Jeffrey Baring notched 16 and 15 points, respectively, but their efforts went down the drain.—
