Parents: Shooting victim not into anything illegal

The family of Christopher Tangag, the call center agent and habal-habal driver who was killed Thursday, continues to mourn for the young man’s death.

They said it is hard to accept Tangag’s death because he was only trying to earn an honest living.

Tangag was among those found dead inside a van in the mountain barangay of Malubog in Cebu City – his hands tied behind his back and his chest and knees bruised.

Allegedly, cops were responsible for the killing during an anti-drug operation. A witness has admitted that she and a companion were supposed to deliver drugs to someone at a mall in Barangay Guadalupe prior to being allegedly rounded up by cops. Tangag was among the two habal-habal drivers they hired to bring them to the mall.

But Tangag's parents denied that their son was involved in anything illegal and his friends and former teachers can reportedly attest to his honest ways.

Tangag's father would describe him as a good son, silent, and naturally friendly. When Tangag was young, he reportedly always excelled in class and was, in fact, a scholar in college.

Tangag's parents said their son decided to drive the habal-habal so he could earn extra for his young family and so he could pay for parking at his call center job.

He left a wife and a nine-month-old son.

Tangag's father said his son's only wish was to build the family their own house in the future.

His mother said they started worrying when Tangag did not go home on Wednesday night because he reportedly did so in the past.

She said it was only through social media that they learned he was among those killed in Barangay Malubog.

Tangag's father said despite the brutal killing and despite the authorities allegedly being the ones involved, they still believe that justice will prevail. They are also unafraid because they are confident of Tangag's innocence.

They are yet to decide their next steps in looking for justice but their immediate concern is how to give Tangag a decent burial. The family had to borrow money for funeral expenses.

While Tangag's son may be unaware of his father's passing, the child reportedly feels his absence and has been crying since because Tangag was reportedly the one who would keep him company, bring him out of the house, and put him to sleep./JMO
