Cebu’s pro-active stance to adapt technological advancement has brought the city at the forefront of digital economy.

This after Cebu City bagged an award in the recently concluded 2018 Digital Cities Philippines (DCP)Awards Night.

Cebu bested other 36 Cities in the Philippines, which were recognized as nominees for six categories, announced Cebu IT BPM. Organization (Cib.O) managing director Wilfredo Sa-a Jr.

Cebu was the only city that took home two grand awards last October 12, 2018 in Manila.

According to Sa-a, this recognition, including the recently released Tholon’s report putting Cebu in the 11th place in the world’s top Super Cities ranking, strengthened Cebu’s image as an “innovation island.”

Cebu City bagged the best Data Driven Governance (D2G) award for its Geo-hazard Mapping Information System and the best in e-Government Systems for Global Competitiveness (G2W) award for its Cebu Business Application and Online Analytics.

The D2G category cites the efforts of an LGU in recognizing that good governance through ICT goes hand in hand with the fair and responsible processing of data.

While, the G2W category, points out the efforts of an LGU in developing world class systems in using ICT that are at par with international or internationally – recognized standards, thus making the LGU globally competitive, recognized, and virtually accessible and interactive.

According to Sa-a, these recognitions highlight Cebu’s Cebu continuous effort to be in the forefront of innovation while maximizing the use of technology so it could deliver more efficient and effective services in a more transparent manner.

“These awards show that Cebu City has always been and continues to be a front runner in the use of technology tools and solutions to make it a better and competitive city,” Sa-a said.

The Digital Cities Philippines (DCP) is formerly the eGov Awards that recognizes local government units (LGU) that have used technology tools and solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness, speed, and transparency of their operations.

Cebu City has already won several times since the inception of eGov Award in 2012.
