CEPCA-A rules Boy Pestaño Memorial chessfest

The Cebu Executives and Profession­als Chess Associatio­n (CEPCA) Team A bested Gullan Trading & Constructi­on in the ninth and final round, 2-1, and that was all it needed to clinch the championsh­ip of the 2nd Boy "Chessmoso" Pestaño Memorial Chess Team Tournament over the weekend at the Barracks Chess Club located at the fourth floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

CEPCA-A composed of National Master Arnolito Cadiz, Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Jong Melendez finished the two-day tilt that was among the highlights of CEPCA's 28th anniversar­y celebratio­n with the highest output of 8.0 points. They pocketed P25, 000 for their efforts.

Team KKK manned by Jethro Esplanada, Jefte Crebillo and Robert John Padel, Aim Coop of Jaime Joshua Frias, Wilhelm Joey Ardiente and Leo Cortes and Toledo City powered by Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Christophe­r Tubalado and Carlos Trocio ended their campaigns with similar 7.0 points but Team KKK took the P15,000 second prize by virtue of a higher tie-break output.

Aim Coop wound up third and Toledo City fourth.

The Danao City Chess Club of Bryle Arellano, Norman Longjas and Eric Abanco finished at solo fifth with 6.0 points.

Rounding up the top 10 placers were CEPCA B of Ramsey Pedroza, Neal Amores and Candido Lepiten, Team San Fernando of Venancio Loyola Jr, Joselito Loquez and Robert Quiros, Team Star Wars of Carlos Moreno III, Joel Pacuribot and Dennis Navales, RJK team of Rommel Ganzon, Kidd Salazar and Justine Flint Misa, and BEST of Richard Natividad, Rosendo Yamyamin, and Martin Sean Kwan. —
