USPF boys near CESAFI volleyball title

The University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation spikers are now one game away in reclaiming the secondary division championsh­ip after a thrilling five-setter over University of San Carlos in Game 1 of their best-of-three finals series in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday at the USC gymnasium.

USPF boys, who won the title two years ago, showed extreme composure as they outlasted the USC in their own turf.

USC took the first set, 25-23, but the gritty USPF bounced back in the second and third set. The Carolinian­s forced a decider after notching the fourth canto, 25-19, but USPF proved to be the more determined squad in the fifth set, 15-13.

own turf in Game 2 set this Sunday.

In the battle-for-third place, University of San Jose-Recoletos subdued Southweste­rn University­Phinma, 25-20, 25-27,25-21.

In the girls action, the USC belles won against the Sacred Heart SchoolAten­eo de Cebu (SHSAdC) Magis Eagles, 25-19, 16-25, 25-22 to finish at third place this season.

Meanwhile, University of the Visayas men’s squad improved their standing to 4-3 at the expense of USC, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 1625, 15-12.
