Capitol donates 23 patrol cars to CPPO
The Cebu Provincial Capitol yesterday turned over 23 brand new patrol cars to Cebu Provincial Police Office.
The Capitol spent P23.8 million to buy the Mahindra units which will be used by the police in crime prevention patrol. Twenty of which were distributed to the towns while the three were given to the CPPO headquarters.
The towns that were given one unit each include Alcantara, Alegria, Argao, Badian, Catmon, Compostela, Daanbantayan, Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Medellin, Minglanilla, Moalboal, Oslob, Ronda, Samboan, San Francisco, San Remigio, Santander, Sogod, and Tuburan.
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said that the recipients were determined based on the crime rate.
“Sa maintenance sa peace and order, ang police need og visibility and mobility kay most of these towns especially sa south, buki-bukid na gyud ba,” Davide said.
He assured that all local government units will receive a police car from the Capitol. The next batch is targeted to be given early next year.
The governor immediately dispels speculations that the donation was politically motivated. He also clarified that the brand of the vehicles is not an issue.
“Ang kasagarang reklamo sa Mahindra is walay service center but we actually have one here in Cebu,” he said.
As reported in July 2018, PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Benigno Durana said that they will no longer include the Mahindra brand in future procurements because the police “do not have good experience as far as those products are concerned”.
CPPO director Manuel Abrugena expressed his gratitude to the provincial government. He also urged the police to take care of the units and work harder to serve and protect.
“The vehicles that you gave us this morning will definitely improve our patrolling and our police visibility in every nook and cranny of the province,” he said.
“Ang inyo pong tulong na ibinigay sa amin sa umagang ito will be reciprocated ng mas pinag-ibayong serbisyo ng inyong kapulisan,” he continued. —
