Claiming that she is not corrupt, Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale is confident to get the support of President Rodrigo Duterte even if she did not campaign for him in the 2016 elections.

Magpale, who supported Liberal Party’s presidential candidate Mar Roxas, said Duterte announced during his visit in Cagayan de Oro City last month that he will campaign for corrupt-free candidates in 2019 midterm elections.

The president promised to reveal his list of candidates to support after Christmas.

“That’s what I said. I will support you as long as you are not corrupt and if you have the capacity,” the president was quoted in media reports.

Magpale said it is a welcome development.

“That’s very good news nga kadtong corrupt free officials ang iyang isaka ang kamot,’Magpale told reporters.

She refused to elaborate when asked about her opponent. Magpale said she can only speak for herself.

“I’m confident nga ako, I have not committed graft and corruption,” the vice governor said.

“Sa 31 ka tuig natong pagpanilbi nga wala gyud intawoy mantsa ang atong pangalan kay I support fully the advocacy of the President nga we should stop graft and corruption,” she added.

Duterte, in his last visit to Cebu, did not raise the hands of the administration candidates but promised to comeback in December to officially endorse gubernatorial candidate Gwendolyn Garcia and all those running under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Meanwhile, Magpale clarified that her supposed meeting with Duterte last week did not push through because of time constraint. Her son, PB Member Miguel, said the vice governor was supposed to meet the president after his political engagement in Mandaue City.

He said someone from Duterte’s protocol office politely called his mother that the meeting had to be moved in another time and venue.

“VG was informed earlier in the evening. We did not have to wait for 8 hours,” he said. —
