Of the 60 teams competing in the ongoing 2nd National SWAT Challenge in Davao City, the Special Weapons and Tactics from Central Visayas is among the top 10 performers.

After a non-placement in the first edition last March, cracking into the magic 10 circle this time is already an achievement in itself, especially considering that the competition is joined by elite police units in the country, including the Special Action Force (SAF), said Police Regional Office-7 Chief Supt. Debold Sinas.

The

tactical competition's objective is to determine the response capability of the SWAT units in addressing general threats that require tactical police intervention and to test the stamina, speed, strength, skill and spirit of the SWAT members.

The final rankings will be released Monday.

Sinas said the new SWAT team of PRO-7 is way better than before because it is composed of the best young operatives in the region who underwent three months of rigorous training.

“Kadaghanan sa atong team mga bata pa so mofight pud gyud ni sila. Karon maayo na ang standing sa PRO-7,” he said.

Sinas also took the occasion to thank businessmen who have supported the team.

“Compared last year, karon naka-focus ta og usa ka team lang. We had three months to practice gisuportahan nato sila og mga bala and training plus naa poy tabang ang mga business shooters sa amoa,” Sinas said, deciding not to identify the businessmen.

The SWAT challenge involves 12 stages, one of which is the physical agility or the obstacle course.

Since the PRO-7 SWAT team aced the course, Sinas believes there is a huge possibility the region would bag the first place.

To recall, PRO-7 gathered the best of SWAT operatives for the national competition through rigorous test, after which they underwent a threemonth physical and agility training.

Sinas said he does not want the operatives to go back to their previous local units because they will compose the new PRO-7 SWAT team. Aside from that, the PRO-7 chief is afraid that the training will not be maintained if they go back to their previous assignments.

Last March 1, 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte led the opening of the first SWAT Challenge Competition in Davao.
