Slain cop served suspension
The policeman who was shot dead in Minglanilla last Wednesday served a monthlong suspension following an administrative charge for allegedly eluding a drug test in 2016.
Superintendent Janette Rafter, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said Police Officer 2 Lord Romyth Cañada, 49, from the Philippine National Police class of 2008, was transferred to the Police Regional Office-7 police headquarters in 2017 after his suspension.
She said immediately after his graduation Cañada was assigned to the Boljoon police then transferred to Minglanilla as a beat patrol officer. He was then assigned in the regional headquarters security group.
"We also do not have information yet if ngano siya nidagan. It was only known based on records that he already served his month-long suspension for the grave misconduct," Rafter said.
Rafter said Cañada had no other derogatory record aside from avoiding the drug test. They also have no information if Cañada was involved in illegal drugs.
"Wala ko kakuha sa information if naa pa siya lain records aside sa katong pagdagan niya sa drug test," she said.
Rafter said benefits of Cañada will be discussed by the adjudication board led by the PRO-7 Director Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas.
Cañada was shot dead by an unknown assailant onboard a black vehicle in Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla, last Wednesday morning. As of the moment, probe is still ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing. —
